After generalized anxiety and metabolic syndrome had moved into Nancy's life and a visit to her doctor left her with a (pre-)diabetes diagnosis, she knew that it was time to make a change.

Hello, I'm Nancy and never in a million years I thought that I would share my story, but after a very emotional weekend looking at some old pictures, and  lots of encouragement, I'm sharing it after all!
  
I went from a very unhealthy, metabolically sick 54-year old woman.. to a healthy energetic 55-year old motivator 😉 and I am completely blown away by the changes.

In June 2020, I had been on a “quitting sugar” journey for a few months and had successfully given up the white, sweet stuff. Desserts, cookies, sweets and packaged foods were no longer part of my diet, but I was seeing almost no results 😔

You know, I started this no sugar  journey to improve my health (lose weight); to reverse my metabolic syndrome, fatty liver, insulin resistance, and if I was very lucky, also my sleep apnea.

However, after some time, I was complaining about this slow progress to a friend and she asked me if I tried the "LCHF" way of eating already? But to be honest, I had never heard of it 🙄

On that day, August 14, 2020, I came home and scoured the internet for more info. The first source of information was an all-telling video, followed by a short quiz. I spent ALL weekend soaking it in. I truly appreciate all the info, recipes and research they've put in. 

August 16, 2020 was the last day I ate potatoes, bread, and pasta.. Those were the final high-carb foods that I ditched – and as a result, I had excellent results! 

And because I had already quit sugar, there was little difficulty or withdrawal – I’m pretty sure I entered a ketosis state  within a week of ditching those high-starchy carbs 😄

I have also lost: daily headaches, cystic acne, lethargic afternoons and evenings, joint pain, inflammation, and best of all sleep apnea – I no longer have to use a CPAP machine.

I have gained: a renewed joy for life, more energy than I know what to do with, a new appreciation for real food and cooking, improved self-esteem that has allowed me to be willing to put myself out there again in ways I never dreamed of, and a sincere passion to share this way of life with anyone who asks me!
Turning 55 has been the best thing that has ever happened to me, even during these difficult stay at home times.. because it really lit a fire in caring for my personal health. And we all know what 'health' means nowadays! 

My biggest challenge though.. was letting go of my favorite chocolate cake – but by repeating a question to myself as to what this (and other carby foods) would do to my insulin response, I was able to break that addiction and have no desire for the foods that obviously made me sick.
My biggest regret is not knowing about this way of life earlier..., but I truly believe God’s hand was in this journey with me every step of the way – making it easy to adopt this new lifestyle to stick with it 100%. 

I am so grateful for all the tips and recipes on the website/app (especially that amazing alternative for my favorite 🍫 chocolate cake 😋 ) – it has truly given me the gift of 'LIFE' to enjoy with my family and friends for many years to come.
